How should you plan your diet on the weekend?
Making sure you actually enjoy the process of your fitness plan is just as important as the details of the plan itself.
There are different types of enjoyment though - from pure hedonism to pragmatic satisfaction. I believe the fat loss phase is a great time to lean into satisfaction, and experience positive emotion through doing hard things.
To relieve tension and bring more joy to this whole fat loss phase, the plan changes between the weekends and weekdays.
Here's a short list:
- Increase calories up to a moderate deficit
- Cook fancier dinners with higher quality ingredients
- Spend my "down time" being active and connecting with friends
Weekends can be a challenge.
Willpower is easy to exercise when there are fewer temptations. But the weekend is full of temptations!
Social events, free time, and the associations between leisure time and food all pull us towards a greater degree of consumption.
Simple tactics for enjoying the weekend
- Plan for a modest increase in calories
- Follow a weekend meal plan that feels more indulgent than the weekdays
- Regulate appetite by incorporating low intensity exercise, such as walking
The key point here is progress. How can you anticipate the trappings and carry on getting results?
There is no one size fits all approach to navigating weekends. But I hope this post has sparked some consideration.
Have a great week!
